Richard - Nordic Walk Leader.
I don’t usually find exercising easy or even particularly inviting these days due to health stuff. However, since joining the Fitmums and Friends Nordic walking group I have been walking 2-3 miles each week. I have benefitted from the more or less full-body but low-impact workout which Nordic walking provides. As well as enjoying the fresh air and vistas of the Westwood, the good company and conversation of my fellow Nordic walkers and the great refreshments welcome and banter back at Beverley Golf club afterwards.
I’m now pleased to be a Nordic walk leader, organising and leading groups, using the core Fitmums and Friends principles of shepherding, inclusion, support and encouragement. Getting the hang of the basic Nordic walking technique is easy and doesn’t take long. The technique and the poles enable greater distances to be walked faster and with noticeably less fatigue.
Pauline - Nordic Walk Leader
Nordic walking is a great way to meet interesting people who, like me enjoy being outside in the fresh air (sometimes very fresh). After an invigorating walk on the beautiful Beverley Westwood with its many paths and open views I go home feeling relaxed and ready to face the rest of my week.

I am passionate about exercise and fitness to promote good health in older age.
Wendy - Nordic Walking Instructor/Team Coordinator
When I retired I made it my mission to keep fit and active and joined Fitmums and Friends. Soon after I became a run leader and enjoyed leading groups at Beverley Fitmums and Friends. Fast forward a few years - I saw that Fitmums and Friends were looking for people to train as Nordic walking Instructors. I jumped at the chance and was lucky enough to get accepted. Since then I, along with a team of Nordic walk leaders and support volunteers have set up a Nordic walking group in Beverley.
I love Nordic walking and I love teaching people the very simple technique which if done correctly provides a wide range of health benefits. Nordic walking really is a great way to stay active while being gentle on the joints. It engages the whole body, improves posture and boosts cardiovascular health.
It’s also a great way to enjoy nature and clear the mind while getting a full body workout. Why not try it? I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
