Guide Runners

Fitmums & Friends has a team of trained leaders who are able to assist runners/walkers who are visually impaired.

A number of our enthusiastic Hull and East Yorkshire-based Run Leaders have undertaken accredited England Athletics Guide Runner training so that they can support people with a visual impairment who would like to get involved in fitness walking and/or running, from one mile up to half marathon distance. This is known as Guide Running.

Training and accreditation involves attendance at a Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running Workshop (details below) as well as clearance through the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.

This means we can support you if you would like to come along to one of our local weekly club sessions, and be there by your side at races and events if competing is your passion.

If you would like further details, please get in touch via the Contact Us page or email laura@fitmums.org.uk.

You will also find a number of our trained Guide Runner Leaders listed in the England Athletics ‘Find a Guide’ database. If you would just like help to find a Guide in your area using this site, again please get in touch – we would be happy to help.

If you are interested in becoming a Guide Runner, we would love to hear from you too – please email laura@fitmums.org.uk.
