Exciting NEW Learning Disabilities Walking Programme

Posted 19th September 2024

We are looking for a team of leaders to help with an exciting new project. Can you offer any time to help lead a walk for people aged 16+ years with learning disabilities? This is a paid role. We would love to hear from you if you think you could help.

These regular walking sessions will provide not only much-needed physical activity but also community social interaction that those with learning disabilities often miss out on.

We are in the early stages of planning so not all aspects are confirmed but we do know the following:

  • The 12-week walking programmes will take place in the daytime in two locations: East Hull and Beverley.
  • One of the walks will take place on a Wednesday but the other day is yet to be confirmed.
  • Participants will be aged 16+ years.
  • This is a paid role at £22.50 per session.
  • Training/induction will be provided.
  • We hope to connect participants to their local parkrun as an end goal - to help them continue their fitness journey but also to build social connections within their community.

Individuals will require either of the following qualifications or be willing to undertake this training:

  • England Athletics - Leadership in Running Fitness (LIRF) or Fitmums & Friends Walk Leader qualification
  • DBS
  • Safeguarding
  • First Aid

All of these can be organised if not already in place.
