Fitmums & Friends Juniors ‘Daily Drill’

Posted 15th April 2020

Every day during lockdown, we are posting a Daily Drill on our Fitmums & Friends Juniors Facebook page. This is a little activity, produced by kids for kids, to encourage movement and improve technique. But athletic drills are not just for athletes – the movements improve balance and co-ordination, stability and strength, range of movement and flexibility, mobility and agility, so they are actually good for everyone. They also require concentration, so can help focus the mind.

Each day, one of junior athletes demonstrates a different drill or activity on video and offers coaching tips so that you can practise the movements at home, inside or out in the garden. So far, they have demonstrated high knee lift (and variations), tin soldiers, open and close the gate, knee extension on the hop, karaoke, shoo the chickens, hop and stick, bounding, sumos, lunges and “sidewards penguin” (though this may not be its proper name!). Today, junior athletes Fern and Will are demonstrating how to do the vertical jump – try it out yourself using the vertical jump scale which you can download below and print out.

Join in by visiting the Fitmums & Friends Juniors Facebook page every day at 3.30pm to watch the latest video. Have fun! And why not share a picture or a video of you getting involved? We'd love to see you!
