Howden Fitmums & Friends opens Wednesday 29 June

Posted 16th June 2022

We are delighted to announce that Howden Fitmums & Friends will officially open on Wednesday 29 June!

Fitmums & Friends offers running sessions supported by trained volunteer run leaders. You choose your distance, from one to six miles, and go at your pace – our unique shepherding system ensures everyone stays together and no one is left behind.

Our sessions are friendly and fun, and support all abilities, from beginners to those who already exercise more regularly. Everyone is welcome – men and women and all ages (16+); no need to be a mum or fit!

Where, when, what...

Howden Fitmums & Friends meets at 7pm on Wednesday evenings at The Wellington Arms, (31 Bridgegate, Howden, Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire, DN14 7JG).

Initially, we are offering run distances of 1 to 4 miles, expanding to 1 to 6 miles at a later date. All distance groups are supported by a trained volunteer run leader who makes sure everyone can run at their own pace and no one is left behind. Our groups also include a ‘new/return to running’ 1 mile group for those who don’t yet feel comfortable running a mile non-stop – we use walk/run intervals to build stamina and confidence in this group.

Getting started

Your first three club sessions with Fitmums & Friends are FREE! To sign up for these three trial sessions, please visit https://fitmums.org.uk/trial/adult and complete your details. It would also be really helpful if you could please download and log into our membership app, Mumbot, before attending a club session. Mumbot allows you to sign in to club sessions quickly and easily, and record and view your activity. If you are an Apple user, Mumbot can be downloaded here; if you are a Google user, Mumbot can be downloaded here.

There is no need to book to come along to a club session – just turn up. When you arrive, head for the person holding the welcome paddle and they will make sure you fit right in and get the most out of your first session.

Once you are ready to join Fitmums & Friends, please sign up on our website at https://fitmums.org.uk/register. Membership costs £36 / year.

Supporting people to be more active

We understand that some people may feel anxious about coming along to a club session for the first time. We can help:

  • We can arrange a chat with one of our volunteers, on the phone or via Zoom, to put you at ease before you come to a club session.
  • We can meet you in the car park so that you have someone to walk in with.
  • We can put you in touch with one of our In the Pink volunteers who will meet you, talk through how we can support you and attend up to three Fitmums & Friends sessions with you.
  • We can offer financial support through the Mike Barlow Memorial Fund.

All you need to do is get in touch – email Vickie at admin@fitmums.org.uk.

We hope to see you at a club session very soon!
