Letter from America

Posted 13th November 2022

In 2019 one of our junior athletes set off on an adventure - moving to the USA with his mum and dad. Noah was a very enthusiastic athlete and is much missed by us all. However, he has kept in touch and sent us an update recently. We thought it would be great to hear about his USA athletics experience. Read on to find out more.

Fitmums & Friends Juniors teammates

Dear Coach Sam,

Since moving to America, I’ve carried on with athletics through my town team, Longmeadow Track & Cross Country. We do Cross Country from September through November and Track & Field from April through June (otherwise it gets really hot!).

I’ve done XC for three seasons and we run 2k, 3k and 4k races against other local teams. We run around a local park for our home course, and we spend a lot of the time in the woods which have a really good, steep hill. I went east towards Boston for the Massachusetts State XC meet a few weeks ago, and I represented Fitmums & Friends by wearing my USA Ambassador hoodie.

For track and field, we run on Longmeadow High School’s track, which I can bike to (it’s a good cardiovascular warm-up). I focus on the hurdles (which are now 33 inches tall!), 400m and long jump. At this year's track and field state meet, I got PRs in both the 400m and long jump, and missed qualifying for the New England meet by just one place!

I definitely thank Fitmums & Friends' Coaches Mike and Wayne for how much I love athletics - they taught me so much.

Well done, Noah! It's lovely to hear from you and see that you are still as active as ever! We look forward to welcoming you back to sessions when you come back to the UK.
