NEW virtual session - progressive strength

Posted 1st February 2021

We are excited to introduce a new virtual session: a 10-week, progressive, strength session aimed at improving your walking/running performance and reducing injury. It will run on Thursdays at 7pm, starting Thursday 4 February.

Tell me more about this session:

This new session will be a course of 10 weekly strength classes led by Coach Neil. The classes will focus on building strength, mobility and stability, and will get just a little more challenging each week. The sessions will support your running/walking or return to group exercise when our clubs are able to meet once again.

Who is it suitable for?

This session is open to all Fitmums & Friends adult members. It is particularly suitable for those who are new to resistance training and people who are returning to running/walking and would like guidance in the strengthening exercises to use to benefit this.

How will it be delivered?

The session will be delivered on Zoom. Each week, the link will be provided in our Fitmums & Friends Virtual Sessions Facebook group. Coach Neil will also post weekly in this group to tell you what you will be doing in the class and why.

If you are not a Facebook user, we will email the Zoom link to you each week.

If you would like to participate in the class but 7pm on a Thursday doesn’t work for you, the sessions will be recorded so that you can do them at a time that does suit you.

Do I have to do every session?

Ideally, yes. We are asking you to commit to taking part in the whole course (10 weeks) so that you can progress during the sessions. However, if you can’t make one (or more) of the sessions, they will be recorded so that you can catch up at a time to suit you.

It will also be beneficial, but not essential, if you are able to repeat the session at another time during the week.

Do I need any equipment?

The sessions will use:

  • resistance bands – a set of mini bands and a longer band (or just a longer band that can be tied to make it shorter)
  • a foam roller

Not all the equipment will be required for week one. If you have the equipment (or suitable substitutes), it will be easier for you to participate in the classes, but it is not essential. If you don’t have the equipment and will struggle to obtain it, please get in touch with Gemma on gemma@fitmums.org.uk and she will see how we can help – we do not want this to be a barrier to you taking part.

How do I sign up?

If you would like to take part, please let us know by emailing Gemma on gemma@fitmums.org.uk. This will ensure that you are emailed the recorded sessions each week. If you are not already a member you can become a virtual members for just £21 details here.

Can I give you feedback?

Of course – we always want to hear from our members. Please share your thoughts and feedback with us during and/or at the end of the course via email or on the Virtual Sessions Facebook group.

Caution

As ever, please work at your own level during these sessions – Coach Neil will give different options to work at, so please pick what is right for you. Unlike face-to-face sessions, coaches cannot check personal health status. We therefore recommend that these sessions are suitable for people in good physical condition who feel able to participate in the sessions. We strongly recommend that you consult with a health professional before beginning any exercise programme if this is a new activity.

Stay healthy!
