Virtual activity sessions now available

Posted 30th March 2020

You know we are passionate about helping people to be more active, and happier and healthier as a result – and nothing’s changed under lockdown. Here is a list of all the ways Fitmums & Friends is currently encouraging people to stay active, to improve both your physical and mental health. We hope these will go some way to supporting you and your families through this difficult time.

Virtual sessions

Every week, we are hosting virtual Fitmums & Friends sessions, including strength and conditioning, pilates, yoga and a session especially for our junior athletes. These can be done in the comfort of your home – with your family too. The sessions on offer are:

Monday 10.30am: Pilates with Coach Claire

Tuesday 10.30am: S&C with Coach Neil

Wednesday 6.30pm: Pilates with Coach Claire

Thursday 6.30pm: S&C with Coach Neil

Friday 11am: Yoga with Emma

Saturday 10am: Junior session with Coach Neil

Sunday 4.30pm: Yoga with Emma

The sessions are led by trained and qualified coaches and instructors and are delivered via Zoom. They are open to all current Fitmums & Friends members – to take part, please join our “Virtual Sessions” Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1986629134795576, or check your email for all the links.

Each session combines the workout and a chance to connect with other members. Please note that if you don’t like the idea of appearing on screen, you can choose to disable the video feature; you will still be able to see and hear the coach, but only your name will appear on the screen instead of your picture.

Pre and post natal yoga sessions

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, we are hosting virtual yoga sessions for pregnant ladies and new Mums. These sessions will be led by our lovely Fitmums & Friends instructor, Emma, and are open to non-members as well as members. The sessions will be on Facebook Live, which means that if you can’t tune in at 2pm, you can do the session at another time to suit you. We really hope these sessions will help pregnant ladies and new Mums who are confined at a time when they need most support.

Fitmums & Friends Flexible Friday

Each Friday, we are going to be working on our flexibility. Stretching your body to become more supple offers many physical benefits. It can lead to greater range of movement, improved balance and increased flexibility. Watch for the post on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/fitmumsnetwork/

Fitmums & Friends Juniors ‘Daily Drill’

Every day at 3.30pm on the Fitmums & Friends Juniors Facebook page, we have our Daily Drill feature – produced by kids for kids! This is a little activity to encourage movement and, for our regular junior athletes, to keep on top of drill movements so that all is not lost when we meet up again once this is all over. Anyone can watch and practice the drills – just go to https://www.facebook.com/fitmumsjuniors/

Club activities

Our clubs are also coming up with innovative ways to keep their members connected while they can’t meet physically, from virtual Facebook groups to selfie challenges – more on that another day. In the meantime, check your club’s Facebook page or contact your club coordinator if you’re not yet involved (or you’ve got a brilliant idea to share with them!)

Work from Home Wellness sessions

With more people working from home, we sense a need to help people look after themselves whilst potentially working in a "set up" not quite as good as that of the usual workplace. It's possible that some people may now be feeling the effects of an incorrect screen/desk height and position. You may even begin to feel an element of neck, back, shoulder, sciatica discomfort as a result. So why not try our "Work from Home Wellness" session - each Wednesday at 8.30am. It takes place on Facebook Live and therefore enables you to pick the session up whenever is convenient for you. It is a 10 minute session only, intended to fit easily into your working day. Try and repeat the session a few times a day and in this way help to curb the aches/pains/discomfort that you may be feeling, or keep problems at bay. Our Fitmums & Friends Instructors Emma and Neil will be taking it in turns to take you through these 10 minute wellness sessions. They will change each Wednesday, so keep the sessions up throughout the week, then tune in each Wednesday to see the next one. Check the sessions out here: https://www.facebook.com/fitmumsnetwork/

Caution

As ever, please work at your own level during these sessions – the coaches will give different options to work at, so please pick what is right for you. Unlike face-to-face sessions, coaches cannot check personal health status. We therefore recommend that these sessions are suitable for people in good physical condition who feel able to participate in the sessions. We strongly recommend that you consult with a health professional before beginning any exercise programme if this is a new activity.

Stay healthy!

These sessions have been made possible by a grant from Localgiving and Postcode Community Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery
