Volunteer at Hull Race for Life!

Posted 21st July 2021

Could you volunteer at this year’s Race for Life in Hull?

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life events couldn't happen without volunteers. Once again, we have been asked to help at Hull’s Race for Life by bringing together some of those volunteers.

This year, the event is being held on Sunday 5 September at Peter Pan Park/Costello Stadium in Hull. All the events – 10k, 5k, 3k, Pretty Muddy Kids and Pretty Muddy Adults – will be held on one day and volunteer support is needed from around 8am to 4pm.

Who do we need?

Volunteers help deliver key aspects of the events, and there's plenty of exciting things you could help with. Race for Life mostly needs Course and Obstacle Marshals to help keep the route safe for participants. They also have roles helping at the Start and Finish areas, helping at the Marquee or manning the 10k water station. And they look for a few individuals to help as Backmarkers, who walk with/behind the last participant so it is clear when all participants have crossed the finish line.

So, we are looking for volunteers who could do a morning shift (8am to midday) to cover the three distance races, an afternoon shift (11.30am to 4pm) to cover the two Pretty Muddy races, or who could help set up at the beginning of the day or pack down at the end of the day. Though volunteering for the full day is of course absolutely fine too! Any time that you can spare would be much appreciated.

Anyone is welcome to volunteer – no age restrictions apply!

If you would like to volunteer or if you have any questions, please email Jen (jen@fitmums.org.uk). She will be able to provide all the details, answer any queries and explain next steps.

Volunteers in previous years have had a blast! Race for Life explains some of the benefits of volunteering below, as well as how they plan to keep volunteers safe.

Whatever time and skills you have to share, Race for Life has a great role for you. Just bring your energy, smiles and passion to the party and let’s beat cancer together.
