We are recruiting - Bereavement Walk Leaders

Posted 19th April 2021

We are soon to start a pilot programme of bereavement walks.

This will be a 12-week walk and talk session for people who have experienced bereavement. The walk session will take place on Mondays at 9.30am starting from Dove House Hospice. We haven’t planned a start date yet, but it will hopefully be in May (not bank holidays) or June.

The idea of this initiative is to help people experiencing loss and grief to combine being physically active in a supportive environment with other people who are dealing with the enormity of bereavement.

We are looking for trained Leaders (Run or Walk) to support this session or people willing to do the Leader training.  The Leader training involves a 1-day face to face course or at present an online version instead.

We also want to recruit a Co-ordinator to do some associated administrative work and organisation of the scheme – this could be in addition to “leading” or separate to it. Both roles have associated payment towards expenses as follows:

Leader: £15 per session

Co-ordinator: 4 hours admin - £40 per week.

We are looking for caring and compassionate individuals with a LIRF qualification (or willing to do this) and current DBS. Attendance at a recent Fitmums and Friends Leader development update session is desirable but not essential. The ability to work as part of a team is crucial.

It will be made clear to participants that the facilitators of this walk session are not trained counsellors, so no counselling experience is required. However, we will be organising bereavement awareness training for the team prior to starting the role. It is possible that trained volunteers from CRUSE/Dove House may support the session, but this is not confirmed yet.

If you are interested in either of these roles please email info@fitmums.org.uk explaining why you think you would be a good candidate for this initiative. Deadline for expressions of interest: 3rd May 2021.
