Would you like to join a dynamic team of trustees? We'd love to hear from you if so...
Background
Fitmums and Friends is a registered charity which provides support for men, women and children to be active through the delivery of walk, run, cycle and athletics sessions. The charity started in East Yorkshire and the bulk of activities are delivered by an extensive volunteer network, now spread across the Humber, North & South Yorkshire.
The organisation has been operational since 2009, becoming a registered charity with a Board of Trustees in 2017. At the end of the most recent membership year, the charity was supporting 1,000 members spread across 11 clubs, with around 250 volunteers delivering sessions (including Run/Walk/Cycle Leaders and Coaches).
The charity has been recognised for its tireless work in improving the health and wellbeing of communities through a number of local and national awards, including the UK Sport Coaching Intervention award in 2017 and most recently it was awarded the Kings Award for Voluntary Service.
Founder and Chief Officer Sam Barlow was awarded a BEM in the 2015 New Years Honours and won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero award in 2021. The charity has an excellent reputation for innovation and is well recognised as a leader in systems of support around activity. This is a dynamic and exciting charity to be a part of and we welcome new trustee- level support to continue to build on the charity’s great work now and into the future.
Current activity
In addition to the core offer of community-based, volunteer-led run/walk sessions, the charity also provides a number of additional programmes of support which include:
