Let’s Get Going helps people cope with the impact of the Covid pandemic. It offers weekly walks with others in a similar situation.
Let’s Get Going is a walking programme designed to support people impacted by the Covid pandemic. It offers 10 weeks of easy-paced, 1 or 2 mile walks with a focus on 'walk and talk' (rather than a workout). The idea is to help people dealing with the impact of the pandemic to be physically active in a supportive environment with others who are in a similar situation.
Let’s Get Going supports men and women impacted by the Covid pandemic. You might have had Covid, or been made to feel anxious or isolated by it, become house-bound or just gotten out of the habit of getting out. You might be struggling to get active again or to start being active.
Participants need to be registered with a Hull GP or have a Hull postcode (this is a requirement of the programme funding). If you do not have a Hull GP or postcode but feel you would benefit from some supportive exercise sessions, please contact us on admin@fitmums.org.uk – we can help in other ways.
We know that exercise and fresh air can support both physical and mental health. Many people who are struggling also find support in being with others in a similar position – knowing that you are not the only one experiencing particular thoughts and feelings can be an incredible help. The aim of Let’s Get Going is to provide safe and nurturing walk sessions for participants to experience the benefits of being active alongside other people in a similar position. We hope that, as happens at our other fitness sessions, friendships will be formed and that it will be a positive, healing experience for both body and mind.
Walks will take place in the daytime as well as evenings, across Hull, from September 2021. For details of dates and venues, please contact our programme coordinator on together@fitmums.org.uk.
Our Let’s Get Going walks are led by trained walk leaders who will make sure that the group stays together and that no one is left behind or on their own. And the focus will be on ‘walk and talk’ rather than a workout! Our leaders are not trained counsellors but will facilitate the sessions so that participants can talk to each other and the leaders as much or as little as they like.
This programme is free to participants. It also includes free membership of Fitmums & Friends (for the remainder of the membership year) so that you can continue to be active with others at your local club after the programme has finished. If you would like a little extra support to get started at your local club, we have lots of ways we can help with that – just ask us.
To sign up, please contact our programme coordinator on together@fitmums.org.uk or complete this form. Participants can also be referred to the programme by a GP, another medical professional, a friend or a family member.
If you have any questions about the programme, please contact our programme coordinator on together@fitmums.org.uk.
