"Just a big thank you for keeping it going"

Posted 18th June 2020

Earlier this month, we asked members for feedback about the virtual activity sessions we have been running during lockdown. We were interested in the views of both those who had participated in a session and those who hadn’t.

140 people, from across all our clubs, completed the survey and their feedback was reassuringly positive. Over 80% of respondents said that the sessions had helped them during lockdown, primarily with their physical health, but also with their mental wellbeing. Respondents agreed that the sessions gave them a focus and something to look forward to, as well as the opportunity to connect with other Fitmums & Friends members, helping them to feel less isolated during this time of social distancing.

29 of the respondents hadn’t done a session, mainly because the Zoom session times weren’t convenient. We are pleased that we were able to respond to this by providing additional sessions via Facebook Live that can be played back at a time to suit. Others had concerns around the technology or felt that it couldn’t replicate the face-to-face social side of club night, or simply preferred to continue running outside even if it had to be done alone.

Those that had done sessions appreciated the variety of sessions on offer, with many trying an activity that was new to them. While a third of respondents had even been able to convince other family members to join in too!

Most of all, many respondents wanted to express how thankful they were for the support our members offer each other, and how much they loved the opportunity to see familiar faces. They also wanted to thank the coaches and instructors, both Neil, Claire and Emma who are delivering the sessions via the central Facebook group, and those who are organising and delivering sessions to their clubs.

We would like to echo that thank you to our coaches, instructors and all our volunteers who are continuing to provide Fitmums & Friends activities – we’re delighted (but not surprised!) that you have been ready, willing and able to help us adapt our sessions and support to continue to help our members through this difficult time. And, finally, we’d like to thank our members for being an amazing bunch of people who are there for each other, both at club and virtually.
