All about Friday 5:

This year, we are excited to introduce a new opportunity to be active together. Friday 5 is a series of three 5k events for Fitmums & Friends members, including juniors aged 11+. It is a fun event and a chance to meet up with members from other clubs to run, walk or Nordic walk a 5k route - at your own pace, as always!

The events will take place at 7pm on a Friday evening in April, May and June at Ennerdale Cycle Circuit in Hull. The cycle circuit is a good tarmac surface where five laps equals 5k.

You can choose to enjoy this fun event as a sociable Friday night out, or you can try to improve your time each month, or you can go all-out competitive! The events will be timed so that you can monitor your progress. And there will be prizes!

Two of the prizes will be for our clubs:

  • the “Highest Club Attendance” award will go to the Fitmums & Friends club which has the most people attending as a percentage of their membership
  • the “Fastest Club Time” award will be given to the club with the fastest average time across all members taking part and all three events

There will also be prizes for our “most improved” participants:

  • for the male and female runners, walkers and juniors (aged 11-15) who post the greatest improvement in time over any two events

And some prizes will be for our speediest members:

  • for the fastest time over all three events for male and female
  • for the fastest male and female from each club
  • for the fastest walker, male and female
  • for the fastest junior (aged 11-15), male and female

There will also be a race momento for everyone who takes part.

The Friday 5 events will take us nicely into our 1-Hour Club Challenge on Friday 28 June – save the date! And learn more here.

Friday 5 is being organised by Fitmums & Friends volunteers: Dave Sunman, Andy Pay, Vickie Hillier and Sam Barlow. We also have the support of trained officials, Helen Johnson and Barrie Cracknell. Thanks to this, and with funding from England Athletics, we are able to put on this event for the first time.
