Boot camp is back!

Posted 11th May 2021

***UPDATED 29.6.2021***

Our (buggy) boot camp is a great opportunity to be active while looking after a little one(s). It’s a cardio workout with toning and resistance work that will help make you fitter and stronger. You work out with your babe or preschooler at your side so no need for childcare. The workout can be adjusted to suit all abilities and fitness levels so everyone is welcome – mums, dads, grandparents, carers, people without little ones too. And people without little ones are very welcome too.

Boot camp will take place on a Wednesday morning at 09.30am, starting Wednesday 19 May. Sessions will be at Cottingham Sports Centre (KGV Playing Fields, Northgate, Cottingham, HU16 5QW) and will be inside or out depending on the weather. Each session costs £1.50 for Fitmums & Friends members or £3 for non-members (children are free), no need to book in advance – just turn up!

We will be using several other Covid-19 precautions, including a group size limit, maintaining a distance of 2m from other participants, and bringing a face covering. These precautions are explained in detail below and are intended to keep everyone as safe as possible. So please read this info before attending a boot camp.

Maximum numbers:

Each boot camp will be limited to 24 adults (the limit does not include children). If for any reason numbers exceed this maximum, we may be able to use the outdoor area to support up to 30 people (not including children). We would address this on the day.

For any queries about this (or anything else boot camp or buggy-related), please email gemma@fitmums.org.uk.

Supporting you to be active

Things have been tough and we understand that some people may feel anxious about returning to activity or need a little extra support to get active again. We can help:

  • We can arrange a chat with one of our volunteers, on the phone or via Zoom, to put you at ease before you come to a session.
  • We can meet you in the car park so that you have someone to walk into the session with.
  • We can put you in touch with one of our In the Pink volunteers who will meet you, talk through how we can support you and attend up to three Fitmums & Friends sessions with you.
  • We can offer financial support through the Mike Barlow Memorial Fund.

All you need to do is get in touch – email Vickie (admin@fitmums.org.uk).

Keeping everyone as safe as possible

We want all participants to feel safe at sessions. For this reason, please read the following information carefully before coming to a boot camp.

Keeping our participants as safe as possible and keeping our sessions open requires everyone to comply with current guidance. To that end, we are asking all of our members to agree to our COVID-19 Code of Conduct. Please read this carefully here before attending a boot camp. By attending a boot camp, you will be agreeing to abide by this code of conduct.

Please bring a face covering with you. You will not need to wear it while exercising. But if you have a minor accident or incur an injury and need help, we will wear our face coverings so that we can give and receive help.

Please make sure that you social distance and follow all other guidelines throughout the session. If the coach, or another participant, needs to remind you about maintaining a 2m distance, please do not be upset by this – it is intended to protect you and everyone else.

As always, the coach will begin the session with the checklist chat. Please listen carefully as the checklist chat now also includes important COVID-19 messages. So that you can familiarise yourself with these before your first session, please read the new checklist chat here or watch it here.

If you are a Fitmums & Friends member, please ensure your emergency contact details are up-to-date in Mumbot.

You may also find our reopening FAQs helpful.

We hope our approach reassures you as to the safety measures we have in place to protect our members, volunteers and local community at this time. Of course, we are relying on every everyone’s cooperation to ensure that we stay safe and open.

We look forward to seeing you at a boot camp soon!

Thank you.
