Menopause Activity Programme

Supporting women through menopause with movement, knowledge and community.

Our Menopause Activity Programme is designed to support women through perimenopause and menopause by combining expert information, gentle physical activity and the opportunity to connect with others who understand what you're experiencing.

Over six weeks, you'll enjoy a programme of supportive walks, expert-led education, menopause-focused yoga, and strength and conditioning sessions. Every element has been carefully designed to help you feel more informed, confident and empowered to stay active during this stage of life.

The programme is completely free, and you do not need to be a Fitmums and Friends member to take part. Whether you're just beginning to notice symptoms or are well into your menopause journey, you'll receive practical advice, encouragement and support in a friendly, welcoming environment.

What's Included?

Walk & Talk Sessions

Our walks are led by trained Walk Leaders who are passionate about supporting women in midlife.

Walks are tailored to the abilities of the group, with distances typically ranging from 1–3 miles. Using Fitmums and Friends' supportive walking systems, everyone can participate at a pace that feels comfortable, regardless of fitness level.

Just as importantly, these sessions provide a valuable opportunity to chat, share experiences and connect with other women who may be facing similar challenges. Many participants tell us this sense of community is one of the most beneficial aspects of the programme.

Understanding Menopause: Symptoms & Treatments

This informative session is delivered by a specialist healthcare professional with extensive experience supporting women through menopause.

You'll learn:

  • What happens during perimenopause and menopause
  • Common symptoms and how to recognise them
  • Practical ways to manage symptoms
  • Available treatment options
  • Reliable, evidence-based resources for further support

There is plenty of opportunity to ask questions, helping you leave feeling more informed and confident about managing your health and wellbeing.

"A great combination of walks, talks, yoga and strength & conditioning classes. Lovely to be in a group sharing the same things we are going through."

  • Improved flexibility, posture and mobility
  • Increased strength and muscle tone
  • Better balance and stability
  • Enhanced energy levels and wellbeing
  • Improved breathing and relaxation
  • Support for cardiovascular health
  • Reduced tension and stress
  • Time for rest, reflection and self-care

The sessions are suitable for all abilities and are designed to help you feel comfortable, supported and refreshed.

Strength & conditioning for menopause

Strength training becomes increasingly important during menopause, helping to maintain muscle mass, strengthen bones and support overall health.

Our strength and conditioning session will introduce you to simple, effective exercises that can be adapted to suit all fitness levels. You'll learn how to exercise safely and confidently while understanding the important role strength, balance and resistance training play during menopause.

Every participant receives a take-home exercise plan to help continue building strength and confidence beyond the programme.

This programme has been wonderful. It has helped me with my confidence and given me the right advice on exercise and wellbeing. From weeks of walks and chat to my first one-mile run. The leaders are amazing and I shall carry on.

Continuing your journey

We deliver our Menopause Activity Programme in communities across Yorkshire, subject to funding availability, making it as accessible as possible for local women.

Where programmes are linked to an existing Fitmums and Friends group, we encourage participants to continue their activity journey after the six weeks. Many women go on to join their local club, benefiting from ongoing support, friendship and opportunities to stay active long-term.
