Leader Training and Support

Our team of volunteer Leaders really are the lifeblood of Fitmums and Friends. Sessions simply would not happen without them.

We are always looking to welcome more Leaders to the team, if you are interested in volunteering as a Leader we would love to chat to you. Please read on?

What is involved?

Each club session needs a team of leaders to support the run and walk sessions. Usually a minimum of 6 Leaders, 7 if a Fitness Walk is offered.

All Leaders must attend Fitmums and Friends in house training to learn our unique systems. In addition, the following training is required:

  • Run Leaders undertake the Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) course which is delivered remotely by England Athletics. This includes modules for First Aid, Safegaurding and completion of a DBS.
  • Walk Leaders undertake Safeguarding, First Aid and completion of a DBS.

What support do I get?

Following completion of training you will receive a comprehensive induction with a member of the Central Team and you can join your club's Leader Whatsapp group. Ongoing support and training is provided by the Central Team. Additional training is available if this interests you.

What commitment is needed?

You can choose to lead up to the distance you are comfortable with and there is no specific number of sessions we ask you to volunteer at - life is busy and we will try and fit around you. The more leaders a club has, the less the commitment. We use a rota system so Leaders get a variety of distances and meet different members.

We do ask for a financial contribution to the cost of the LiRF course, this is to show commitment and to help ensure we have funds to support as many people through the LiRF course as possible. If finances are a barrier please talk to us - we may be able to help through the Mike Barlow Memorial Fund
