Bolton - the ACTIVE Sheep

Posted 22nd April 2025

Bolton is a delightful homemade little sheep made by a Fitmums and Friends member called Jill who originates from Bolton.  Jill who is a volunteer run leader made this little soft toy after learning about the "shepherding" system used within Fitmums and Friends.  An important system which supports all runners/walkers of all abilities.   After hearing Jill's wonderful accent there was only one name for our little friend - Bolton.

Bolton is part of our junior athletics club.  He has become an integral and important part of sessions.  Each week one athlete gets to take Bolton home with the promise to keep him as active as possible.  A diary accompanies Bolton and each child writes down what Bolton gets up to in his weekly visits.  The diary makes for an entertaining read!

Bolton encourages families to be as active as possible during the week.  He has also become a very useful means of reassuring anxious children in sessions.  Our junior sessions start for children aged 5 years and sometimes Bolton is just what is needed to help ease a child into the activities.  Bolton has been especially useful for children attending with additional needs.  Bolton gets to visit many different places and is always identifiable with his very own "Fitmums and Friends" top!

Bolton makes guest appearances on our social media pages and the children love looking at the diary to see what he has been up to each term.

Everyone agrees Bolton is a wonderful addition to the Club!  Thank you so much Jill!
