Coaching at Fitmums & Friends

Posted 20th December 2022

Fitmums & Friends is passionate about supporting people to be more active. We provide a range of running, walking, cycling, buggy and junior athletics sessions across Hull, Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire to help improve fitness and provide an opportunity to socialise with like-minded people.

Among our activities are coached sessions for our adult and junior members. These are run by a team of volunteer and paid Athletics Coaches, Coaching Assistants and Athletics Leaders who do a fabulous job of motivating and supporting our members. We provide full training and support to our coaching team. All of this is explained in more detail below.

We are always looking for more people to become coaches, assistant coaches and athletics leaders so that we can continue to deliver our current sessions and build more opportunities to help more people.

If you already have a coaching qualification, that is great! Please get in touch!

But we don’t need you to have qualifications or experience already – we just need you to be enthusiastic, willing to learn and available to help at sessions with children and/or adults.

If you would like to know more about coaching with Fitmums & Friends, please contact Sam on info@fitmums.org.uk or 07870 654586. Thank you!

We support our coaching staff to complete England Athletics qualifications:

Athletics Coach: Coaches embarking on the Athletics Coach qualification develop their technical knowledge and expertise across core event areas in relation to run, jump and throwing activities, as well as specialising in their chosen Event Group area.

Coaching AssistantThe Coaching Assistant qualification is for those who wish to take their first step into coaching in athletics. As an entry level qualification, the course is designed to provide prospective coaches with an introduction to coaching athletics via a range of running, jumping and throwing skills and activities. It also focuses on the introduction of the fundamental movement skills that underpin athletic activities.

Leading AthleticsWhile not a formal qualification, the Leading Athletics workshop is aimed at individuals who are interested in an introduction to the skills needed in leading athletics activities for young athletes. It’s perfect for athletes (aged 14+) wanting to support younger members at their club, or parents who want to take their first steps into volunteering and leading. Individuals completing the course will be able to support an Athletics Coach leading elements of a training session.
