Families in Cottingham are being invited to jump, run, balance and laugh their way into the weekend with Saturday Active – a brand-new fitness session designed specifically for parents and children to enjoy together.
Taking place every Saturday morning from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Civic Hall, this unique session combines fun, movement, and connection through a series of athletics-based games that help build fitness, agility, balance, and coordination.
What makes Saturday Active stand out is its focus on family teamwork. Instead of dropping children off, parents join in, working side by side with their kids on playful challenges that get everyone moving — and smiling.
“Children love to be active, and when parents join in too, the benefits multiply,” said Barrie Cracknell – Lead Coach. “It’s not just about exercise – it’s about building confidence, bonding as a family, and showing kids that being active is something we can enjoy together."
Suitable for All Abilities
Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just starting out, Saturday Active is suitable for all fitness levels. The activities are designed to be fun, accessible and adaptable, making sure everyone can take part and feel included — regardless of ability or experience.
The Health Benefits Go Beyond the Hour
Regular physical activity is known to improve heart health, boost mental wellbeing, support a healthy weight, and build stronger muscles and bones — for both children and adults. But when families exercise together, they also strengthen their emotional connections.
Participating in shared physical activity has been shown to:

Whether you're hopping through agility ladders, tackling team relays, or trying a new balance challenge, Saturday Active is designed to be inclusive, energising, and packed with laughter.
Sessions are held every Saturday from 10:30am–11:30am at the Civic Hall, Cottingham. All families are welcome — just bring your trainers, a bottle of water, and your best high-five.
