We are recruiting - Yoga Instructor, Together in Grief

Posted 27th February 2023

We are looking for someone special to join our Together in Grief team as a Yoga Instructor to lead our Yoga for Grief sessions.

Job description and details:

Together in Grief (TiG) is an activity programme delivered by Fitmums and Friends which supports people who are bereaved with the delivery of walk and yoga sessions.

We want to recruit an experienced and certified yoga instructor to lead a series of Yoga for Grief programmes, for adults aged 16+ years.

The yoga instructor will be responsible for performing yoga poses in precise alignment, using the correct terminology, and safely guiding participants through the flow of the practice with the aim of supporting those struggling with loss. You should also be knowledgeable about mindful meditation.

We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ideally with experience of working with people who are bereaved but this is not essential.

We anticipate programmes will be 6-8 weeks in length. Each session is one hour in duration with a period of time at the beginning to welcome and meet and greet participants.  The venue for sessions is likely to be in the East Riding and could be either in the daytime or evening.

Salary: £35 per session

Yoga Instructor Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and lead yoga classes.
  • Facilitate a discussion at the first session (and any session where a new person attends) inviting participants, if they wish, to say who they are remembering. The yoga instructor will need to be comfortable in supporting participants who may get upset during any stage of a session. This is a crucial element of the programme.
  • Visually assess participants to determine their level of practice.
  • Assist participants to achieve precise alignment.
  • Demonstrate practice and techniques.
  • An understanding/interest in teaching those new to yoga.
  • The ability to adapt sessions for those who need it, e.g. Chair Yoga.
  • An understanding of how to create a practice that can help people rest.
  • Be mindful towards understanding breath techniques to help with easing stress and anxiety.
  • Transform energy during the warm-up, build-up and cool-down stages.
  • Motivate participants with words of encouragement.
  • Connect with participants during the yoga classes through fun, intelligent sequencing.
  • Offer training recommendations to improve the practice of yoga.
  • Facilitate a small number of administrative duties, e.g. take a register, report attendance figures, hand out evaluation forms.

Yoga Instructor Requirements:

  • RYT-200 Certification (Registered Yoga Teacher) or a minimum three years professional teaching experience.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Education or experience in health and fitness is preferable.
  • Experience of supporting people who are bereaved is desirable.
  • Ability to work daytime/evening.
  • DBS
  • Safeguarding training – or willing to complete.

An induction will be provided to help prepare for the role.
